Year in and year out, my favorite race in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships is the FanDuel Mile Presented by PDJF. One-mile races on the grass are, in my opinion, the best races in the sport of Thoroughbred racing for betting and pure enjoyment.

Even someone who doesn’t follow horse racing particularly closely has probably heard of the Breeders’ Cup.

This is a great opportunity to learn a bit more about the horse racing market and perhaps place some bets on a high-profile race or two.

The Different Races

The Breeders’ Cup is actually a series of races, rather than just one. It is one of the top meetings held in the US, with a history going back to 1984. The runs are held over 2 consecutive days, with Nov. 5 and 6 the dates in 2021.

Every year, the Breeders’ Cup attracts a strong contingent of international raiders to challenge North America’s best horses in a series of lucrative races. And among the 14 Breeders’ Cup events, none of the World Championships races attracts a stronger international presence on a year-to-year basis than the $4 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf.

The Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint is arguably the most prestigious dirt sprint race in the world. It carries a purse of $2 million and has propelled the last seven winners and 10 of the last 11 winners to year-end champion honors as the Eclipse Award winner in the male sprinter division.

In his regular gambling blog, John Piassek presents his top picks for the upcoming weekend in horse racing, offering betting options at different budget levels. Piassek’s Plays is brought to you by Horseplayers.com, the official online qualifying site of the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) and National Horseplayers Championship (NHC).
