America’s Best Racing and handicapper (and avid gambler) Monique Vág team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend.

Vág will identify her top picks as well as at least one longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet. She also will occasionally look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.

This Weekend’s Bets

The fillies’ equivalent of the Preakness Stakes, the $250,000, Grade 2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, headlines the Friday May 14 card at Pimlico. A field of 10 3-year-old fillies will contest the 1 ⅛ mile dirt race. It’ll go as the 13th race on the card, scheduled for 5:44 p.m. ET.

Preakness Stakes weekend has arrived and presents another opportunity around a U.S. Triple Crown race to handicap and bet on cards with deep fields filled with well-matched racehorses. Friday’s George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes card drew 171 entrants, including several overflow fields, for 14 races featuring six stakes.

What’s the best way to make money betting Saturday’s $1 million, Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico? The answer depends on who you ask, but if you’re using history as a guide, then betting 9-5 favorite #3 Medina Spirit is surely the way to go.

Back in its traditional place two weeks after the Kentucky Derby and on the third Saturday in May at Pimlico, the 146th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Preakness Stakes drew a field of 10.
