For the eighth year in a row, America’s Best Racing is challenging some of the brightest minds in horse betting to come up with their top three picks for key races every weekend leading up to the 2024 Triple Crown and then continuing through the 2024 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The handicappers face off in what we like to call the “Big-Race Showdown.”

A field of eight horses are scheduled to run in this year’s Grade 1, $1 million FanDuel Racing Pacific Classic Stakes, a “Win and You’re In” race for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Welcome to Noel Michaels’ Weekend Winners, the place to go for weekend best bets and spot plays from veteran handicapper and tournament-play pioneer Noel Michaels. Check back every week for a couple of highlighted selections designed to help you cash a few bets and make some money.

Thoroughbreds closely associated to the Old Dominion State take center stage Saturday at Colonial Downs in New Kent, which offers a Virginia Champions Day card highlighted by five turf stakes.

The Jamestown Stakes, restricted to 2-year-olds either bred in Virginia or sired by a stallion standing in Virginia, is scheduled as Race 5 with a post time of 3:30 p.m. ET. It’s a 5 ½-furlong turf sprint and features a field of seven juveniles just starting their racing careers.

The Kentucky Thoroughbred racing circuit will take a brief two-week detour to Kentucky Downs at the end of August and beginning of September, so don’t blink, because if you do you might miss some of the richest racing in all of North America.
