America’s Best Racing and handicapper (and avid gambler) Monique Vág team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.

For some posts, Vág will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet. She also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.

Dan’s Double of the Week, featuring handicapping analysis from America's Best Racing's New York correspondent Dan Tordjman, is brought to you by Horseplayers.com, the official online qualifying site of the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) and National Horseplayers Championship (NHC). Horseplayers.com offers low-cost feeders every day and BCBC and NHC qualifiers every weekend, and it’s the only site where you can qualify for the $1 million BCBC.

A class drop is always an important factor in handicapping a race. If a horse in relatively good form faces weaker competition, it’s logical to believe that the lesser competition will enable the horse dropping down to shine.

It was in January 1979 that I started a new chapter in my life. I had worked in the banking business in Connecticut when I decided upon a career change to try and get a job in sports.

I went back to school at St. John’s University to study a new major called Sports Administration. Back then, there was no clear path to getting a job in sports but St. John’s had a novel idea.

St. John’s had the resources and contacts in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to start internships with sports organizations to work for credits only.
