America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.

Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.

The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.

There are times when a small change can make a big difference in a horse’s racing luck.

North Slope is a 4-year-old gelding trained by Kiaran McLaughlin who was talented enough to finish second in the Grade 3 Hall of Fame Stakes last year, but came into this month with an 11-race losing streak.

Something, though, was different for his start on Sept. 19 at Belmont Park in a turf allowance race. He was adding blinkers.

Saturday's Grade 1 $300,000 Del Mar Debutante Stakes will be quite the exciting race as nine talented 2-year-old fillies will take to Del Mar's Polytrack going 7 furlongs. Though only two fillies have run in stakes races prior to this event, the field is full of maiden success. Lets take a look at some of these contenders and see how we can make some money on a budget!

Claiming races are the meat and potatoes of the racing industry.

They feature horses that are a cut below those in allowance or stakes races but who tend to stick around the racetrack longer and make a different type of name for themselves.

Some New York handicappers are no doubt familiar with Chairman Now. They might recall him from 2012 when he won four races.
