The $1.25 million, Grade 1 Travers Stakes Saturday at Saratoga Race Course drew a strong field of seven 3-year-olds, with three entering the race off stakes victories. For the first time since 2017, the winners of each of the Triple Crown races will meet in the Travers, so it promises be a very important race in determining leadership in this competitive division heading into the fall months.

A pair of champions will face off in Saturday’s $500,000, Grade 1 Ballerina Handicap at Saratoga Race Course, a prestigious sprint for fillies and mares taking place over seven-eighths of a mile. But the outcome won’t necessarily be what bettors expect based off a glance at the past performances.

The $1.25 million, Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga dates all the way back to 1864, which means it’s older than the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. The historic race annually attracts some of the best 3-year-old Thoroughbreds in the country and is practically an extra leg of the Triple Crown, so you don’t want to miss Saturday’s renewal of the 1 1/4-mile “Mid-Summer Derby.”
