Anglophile, an English Channel colt, lost his first two career starts on dirt but won impressively in his grass debut in July 2022 at Ellis Park, taking a one-mile race by 1 ¼ lengths. He did not race again at age 2 and returned in the April 1 Cutler Bay Stakes at Gulfstream Park, where he rallied to finish second at 16.60-1 odds.

The Brian Lynch trainee then moved up to graded stakes company and was unplaced in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes on Kentucky Derby day at Churchill Downs, but improved once back at Ellis Park, winning an allowance optional claiming race on July 16.

He returned to stakes company in the KY Downs Preview Dueling Grounds Derby at Ellis on Aug. 5, and finished third by a neck despite having to check and then being bumped in the stretch. That set him up for a start in the Grade 3 National Thoroughbred League Dueling Grounds Derby at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 3, and the colt got a perfect ground-saving trip under jockey Declan Cannon before taking the lead in midstretch and then holding off Grade 1 winner and odds-on favorite Far Bridge by a half-length.

Anglophile is out of the Kitten’s Joy mare Trustmore Lovemore and is from the family of Group 1 winner and sire Crowded House.
