Best Actor won his career debut in a 1 1/16-mile race at Oaklawn Park on April 16, 2022. The late-blooming 3-year-old Flatter colt returned to romp by four lengths in a one-turn mile allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs in June, and then made his stakes debut in the Indiana Derby on July 9 at Horseshoe Indianapolis. He endured a rough start in the Grade 3 Indiana Derby but ran well to finish second behind Actuator.

Returning for another stakes try in the Grade 3 Smarty Jones Stakes at Parx Racing on Aug. 23, Best Actor stalked the pace through the backstretch and into the far turn of the 1 1/16-mile race and took over in early stretch. He won by 5 ¾ lengths despite struggling to change leads and improved to 3-for-4 in his career.
Owned by Gary and Mary West and trained by Brad Cox, Best Actor is out of the Smart Strike mare Abraqat. His second dam (maternal granmother) is multiple Grade 1 winner Spun Sugar.
