Celestial City recorded his first victory in her second career race in a turf route for 3-year-old maidens on March 26, 2022, at Gulfstream Park. Two starts later he was already up against stakes competition with a second-place finish in the $100,000 Jersey Derby on May 29 at Monmouth Park. He finished second by a head.

Celestial City's active 2022 campaign went on to include a third-place finish in the Grade 2 Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 5, followed by a dead heat for second in the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes at Saratoga on Sept. 3. He then defeated allowance competition at the Belmont at the Big A meet on Sept. 24, winning a 1 1/16-mile grass race by a head.
The first career stakes victory for Celestial City came on Oct. 22 when he overcame a bad stumble at the break to go last-to-first in a 10-horse field to win the Grade 2 $300,000 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont at the Big A by 2 1/4 lengths. He ran the 1 1/8 miles in a time of 1:50.27 and paid $9.60 to win as the favorite on a wide-open tote board.
Celestial City is trained by Shug McGaughey. He is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Uncle Mo, out of the mare Lunar Evening by Malibu Moon.
