Cistron

Cistron picked up his first career victory in December 2016 at Del Mar in his third start and then placed in a pair of stakes and won an allowance race.

Cistron, a California-based son of The Factor, shipped to Oaklawn Park in spring 2017 to run in the Northern Spur Stakes, and exited Hot Springs with his first stakes victory. The John Sadler trainee then finished second in the Desert Code Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

Following the Northern Spur, Cistron raced against strong competition but endured a 17-race winless stretch that included six top-three finishes in stakes races, including a pair of graded stakes. The last race of the 17-race losing skid was a quality runner-up finish in the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes on March 31, 2019.

Cistron returned to the winner’s circle in his next start, leading from start to finish on hiw way to a 5 ¼-length victory in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes on April 20 at Santa Anita Park. In the Grade 2 Triple Bend Stakes, Cistron led into deep stretch but could not hold on late in a runner-up finish to Air Strike. Cistron earned his first Grade 1 win July 27 at Del Mar when he led from start to finish in the Bing Crosby Stakes. He did not race again in 2019.

Following a layoff of more than 7 1/2 months, Cistron moved back to the grass and returned in the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes, reeling in heavily favored Bound for Nowhere in deep stretch to prevail by a nose.
