A Group 3 winner in England, Desert Encounter made the most of his first trip to North America by closing powerfully to win the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine on Oct. 13, 2018. He reeled in Thundering Blue in deep stretch to prevail.
Desert Encounter opened his 7-year-old campaign with a third-place finish in the Group 2 Skycargo Dubai City of Gold Stakes in March but was unplaced in the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic.

He returned to England and finished eighth in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot before a third-place finish in the Group 2 Princess of Wales Stakes in July at Newmarket. Desert Encounter followed with three straight Group 3 wins in England in August and September. He returned to Woodbine Oct. 12 in search of a repeat victory in the Canadian International and rallied powerfully in the stretch to complete a last-to-first rally for a half-length win.
