English Bee, a son of champion English Channel, won his career debut on the synthetic track at Presque Isle Downs in September 2018. He tallied his first stakes win at age 3 in the James W. Murphy Stakes in May 2019 and was then elevated to graded stakes company by owner-breeder Calumet Farm and trainer Graham Motion. The colt finished tenth and fourth in his first graded stakes tries but next broke through with a game head win in the Aug. 31 Grade 3 New Kent County Virginia Derby, the marquee race in Colonial Downs’ 2019 meet.
