After finishing sixth in his career debut, Five Star General won his second start Oct. 27, 2018 at Laurel Park in a one-mile race that was moved off the turf. He closed out his 2-year-old season with a 1 ¼-length win in the Central Park Stakes in November at Aqueduct.
The Distorted Humor colt was tested on the Triple Crown trail to start his 3-year-old season in 2019. He finished sixth in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes before running fourth in the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks on the synthetic track at Turfway Park.

After running second in the Stanton Stakes in June at Delaware Park, Five Star General was entered in the Fasig-Tipton July horses of racing age sale.
North American Thoroughbred Horse Co. purchased him for $180,000 and transferred him to trainer Glen Todd. Five Star General won the British Columbia Cup Sir Winston Churchill Derby Trial Handicap by 2 ¼ lengths in his first start for his new connections. He next earned his first graded stakes victory when he held off Expode by a nose to win the Grade 3 British Columbia Derby Sept. 7 at Hastings.
