Frosted Over

Frosted Over, a Frosted colt owned by Gary Barber and trained by Mark Casse, was unplaced in his first two starts at Churchill Downs and Fair Grounds but improved once shipped to Woodbine. He broke his maiden in June 2021 by 4 ¾ lengths and followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Marine Stakes and then a neck win in an 1 1/16-mile allowance optional claiming race at Woodbine on Sept. 11.

On Oct. 31, he scored his first graded stakes victory and improved to 3-for-6 lifetime with a 3 ¾-length score in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby. He closed out his 3-year-old season with a runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Valedictory Stakes Dec. 5 at Woodbine.

Frosted Over finished in the top three in each of his first two races in 2022, including a second in the Grade 2 Stella Artois Eclipse Stakes in May. He regained his top form and halted a four-race winless stretch with a 4 3/4-length runaway in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes July 1 at Woodbine.

Barber bought Frosted Over via agent Justin Casse for $275,000 at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton July yearling auction. He is out of the winning Candy Ride mare Candy Crush and his second dam is multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Lady Melesi, by Colonial Affair, who also produced three stakes winners.
