Grand Sonata

Grand Sonata made his 3-year-old debut a winning one on New Year's Day 2022, when he won the Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park by a head, as he chased down longtime leader Chanceux and got up in the last few strides for the victory. Despite the win in the Dania Beach, Grand Sonata was dismissed at 5.80-1 in the Kitten's Joy Stakes at Gulfstream on Feb. 5, 2022. He was blocked in the stretch with nowhere to run, but as soon as a hole opened up, he shot through and prevailed. 

Grand Sonata added one win to his ledger during his 4-year-old season in 2023 with a victory in an allowance optional claiming race going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 24.

Grand Sonata turned in the highlight victory of his career as a 5-year-old on Sept. 7, 2024, when he was victorious in the Grade 2 $1.995 million Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes going 1 1/2 miles on the grass at Kentucky Downs. Grand Sonata used a late run from near the rear of the nine-horse field to take control in deep stretch and gutted out the win ny a half a length at just over 15-1 odds on the tote board. The Kentucky Turf Cup was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series win and you're in race, and with his win, Grand Sonata earned a berth in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Del Mar. Grand Sonata's winner's share of the purse in the Kentucky Turf Cup came to $1,195,200.

Grand Sonata is trained by Todd Pletcher. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Medaglia d'Oro out of the mare A.P. Sonata by A.P. Indy.
