Hazelbrook

Hazelbrook, a Bayern filly owned by True North Stable and trained by Lorne Richards, scored a 26.05-1 upset in the Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes July 24, 2022, at Woodbine. She rallied from off of the pace and overcame some bumping to edge Amalfi’s Princess by a neck under Jason Hoyte.

Prior to the Hendrie, Hazelbrook won three of five starts dating back to 2020, all at Woodbine, and finished eighth in her stakes debut in September 2021.

Following the victory in the Hendrie, Hazelbrook reeled off more good stakes efforts in 2022. She won the Sweet Briar Too Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic track at Woodbine on Aug. 21 and followed that up with a second-place finish in the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes at seven furlongs at Woodbine on Sept. 17.

Hazelbrook earned her first career graded stakes victory in the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes going six furlongs on Woodbine's synthetic main track on Oct. 15. Sent off as the 1-2 odds favorite in a field of six, Hazelbrook stalked a fast pace, took over the lead in the stretch, and held on to score a three-quarter length win. She covered the six furlongs in 108.38 and paid $3.10 to win.

Hazelbrook is out of the winning Bernstein mare Zaphia and is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Zuzanna.
