Honor Code

After an eye-popping debut win, in which Honor Code rallied from 22 lengths back to prevail comfortably, the dark bay or brown colt closed determinedly to finish second in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes in his second career start for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.

Honor Code followed with a game victory in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes in which he rallied after being passed in the stretch by Cairo Prince. The colt made one start as a 3-year-old before being shelved for much of the year. He returned in November 2014 with a win at Aqueduct.

As a 4-year-old Honor Code won the Gulfstream Park Handicap in convincing fashion before heading to Churchill Downs to run in the Alysheba Stakes on Kentucky Oaks day. He finished a disappointing fifth after his powerful closing kick proved ineffective with the slow pace set up front.

Honor Code redeemed himself at 7-1 odds in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap on Belmont Stakes day when he rallied from last to win by 3 3/4 lengths with an explosive closing kick. He then gave trainer Shug McGaughey his first win in the Whitney Invitational since Personal Ensign and Easy Goer won back-to-back editions of the race in 1988 and 1989.

In the Whitney, Honor Code closed from nearly 20 lengths back and caught game pacesetter Liam's Map in the final strides. In the final race of his career, Honor Code finished third in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
