Joey Freshwater won his maiden race as a 2-year-old on Nov. 27 at Churchill Downs, when be beat maiden claimers and got claimed out of the race by trainer Linda Rice. He then won his subsequent start for the new barn in a New Year's Day allowance optional claiming race at Aqueduct. He finished third in his next outing in the $100,000 Jimmy Winkfield Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 11, 2024.
Joey Freshwater began a big positive career uptick with an optional claiming victory at Aqueduct on April 4, when he went 1:09.2 for six furlongs and won by 3 3/4 lengths. He then returned on May 11 to capture the Grade 3 $175,000 Runhappy Stakes at Aqueduct, topping the five-horse field by a neck.
