Lexitonian won his career debut in June 2018 at Belmont Park before an unplaced finish in the Grade 3 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga in July. The chestnut Speightstown colt closed his 2-year-old season with an unplaced finish in an optional-claiming race at Keeneland in October.

Lexitonian made his 3-year-old debut for a new trainer, Jack Sisterson, on the May 4 Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs and faded to fifth. He rebounded nicely two weeks later to close from off the pace in the final strides to catch Gladiator King for a victory in the Grade 3 Chick Lang Stakes on the Preakness Stakes undercard.
On Jul. 14, 2019, Lexitonian won his first carer stakes race, taking the Concern Stakes at Laurel Park by a neck in an 18.60-1 upset. He won a dramatic three-horse photo finish over Royal Urn and Mind Control, under jockey Sheldon Russell.
Over the next 24 months, Lexitonian earned two graded stakes placings. He was second by a nose in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 1, 2020, and was second in the Grade 1 Churchill Downs Stakes Presented by Ford on May 1, 2021.
Lexitonian earned his first graded stakes win in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga on July 31, 2021. He set the pace on the inside and never retreated, battling in the stretch for a half-length victory at 34-1.
