Mo Mosa

Mo Mosa, an Uncle Mo colt owned and bred by Perry and Denise Martin and trained by Mike Maker, broke his maiden in his third career start when he scored by 5 ¾ lengths in a one-mile race at Turfway Park in February 2020. He was immediately elevated to run in a Kentucky Derby prep but finished 12^th in the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby, and two starts later finished seventh in a division of the Arkansas Derby.

Maker brought Mo Mosa back to the track in August 2020 and he won an allowance race at Ellis Park, and followed that up with a good runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby. Mo Mosa finished third once in his final four starts of the year and came back to run second in his first two starts of 2021, both at Oaklawn Park.

Two starts after that, he scored his first stakes win in a listed event at Fonner Park on April 24, setting him up for another graded stakes try. In the Grade 3 Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star Park on May 31, Mo Mosa stalked in third behind the pace on a sloppy track and took over in early stretch en route to an upset 3 1/2-length win in the Steve Sexton Mile over multiple graded stakes winner and 7-year-old veteran C Z Rocket.

Mo Mosa is out of the unraced Eskendereya mare Roughing and from the family of Grade 1 winner Hunter O’Riley and Grade 2 winner Dream Play, among several other stakes winners.
