Montauk Traffic dwelt at the start and was distanced in his career debut Dec. 14 at Laurel Park but he did finish willingly despite never being in contention. He followed with a 4 ½-length runaway win two weeks later at Aqueduct in a maiden special weight race.
The Cross Traffic colt won the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes by 1 ½ lengths in his 3-year-old bow and then finished fourth in the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes March 7, both at Aqueduct.
