Morello made his 3-year-old debut in the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 6, 2022. Despite racing wide throughout, he struck the front in the stretch and drew off to win by five lengths.
In his next start, Morello stretched out to a mile in the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct on Mar. 5. He enjoyed another good stalking trip and powered away to win by 4 1/2 lengths. That win improved Morello's career record to 3-for-3, and earned him 50 points towards the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, ensuring him of qualification for that race.
