Mucho Unusual

Mucho Unusual made her career debut in the Generous Portion Stakes in August 2018 at Del Mar and finished second. She followed with an 8 1/4-length runaway win in a maiden special weight race in October at Santa Anita Park before closing her 2-year-old season with a runner-up finish in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Stakes.

After running fourth in her 3-year-old debut on Jan. 27, Mucho Unusual was switched to turf by trainer Tim Yakteen and stretched out to a mile. The bay daughter of Mucho Macho Man responded with a three-length victory on Feb. 18 in the California Cup Oaks. She won at one mile on the grass at Santa Anita for a second straight start when she took an allowance race by a neck in June. Mucho Unusual tested the waters against graded stakes competition for the first time in the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes on July 20 at Del Mar and outfinished Apache Princess to win by a neck.

Mucho Unusual continued to compete against elite competition over the 14 months, but she was winless in eight consecutive races, a string that included five top-three finishes in stakes races. She finally returned to the winner's circle when she employed a change in tactics and led from start to finish for clear victory Sept. 26 at Santa Anita in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes, a "Win and You're In" race for the Maker's Mark  Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. 

After a 12th-place finish in the Filly and Mare Turf, Mucho Unusual returned to her home track at Santa Anita and scored a three-quarter-length win in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes on Dec. 27. She followed that up with a win in the Grade 3 Megahertz Stakes on Jan. 18 a second-place finishes in the Grade 3 Buena Vista Stakes on Feb. 20 and the Grade 3 Santa Ana Stakes on Mar. 27.

A half-sister (same dam [mother], different sire [father]) to Grade 3 winner Big Score, Mucho Unusual is out of the winning Unusual Heat mare Not Unusual.
