Multiplier emerged as a 2017 contender for Triple Crown races in late spring, when he shipped from Fair Grounds to win the Grade 3 Illinois Derby at Hawthorne Race Course on April 22 with a late rush. The son of The Factor, owned by American Equistock and trained by Brendan Walsh, made his racing debut in January and finished third, second, and first in three maiden special weights at Fair Grounds before jumping up in class and winning his first stakes attempt in the Illinois Derby.
