Royal Flag

Royal Flag, a Will Farish homebred daughter of Candy Ride, finished third in her debut in September 2019 and then won her second start by a commanding eight lengths at Aqueduct on Dec. 15, 2019. She started off her 3-year-old season with two wins at Gulfstream Park and Churchill Downs during the spring and was then elevated to stakes competition by trainer Chad Brown, where she finished third in the Grade 3 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park.

The filly then ran second in the Shuvee Stakes at Saratoga in August and second again in a listed stakes at Monmouth in October before nabbing her first stakes victory in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Handicap at Aqueduct.

In 2021, Royal Flag made her debut in the Grade 3 Baird Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland in April and just missed, losing by a head to Bonny South. After a three-month break, she made a second consecutive start in the Shuvee Stakes and this time won the race, rallying late to score by three-quarters of a length.

After a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes, beaten by just a half-length by older dirt female division leader Letruska, Royal Flag regained her winning form with an eye-catching 4 ¼-length romp in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes Oct. 10 at Belmont Park.

In the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Royal Flag finished fifth but only 1 ¼ lengths behind longshot winner and Japanese import Marche Lorraine. She returned for a 6-year-old campaign in 2022 and in her debut ran second to Search Results in the Ruffian Stakes May 8 at Belmont Park.

Royal Flag is out of the winning Mineshaft mare Sea Gull. She is a full sister (same sire [father], same dam [mother]) to Grade 3 winner Eagle and a half-sister (different sire, same dam) to Grade 2 winner Catalina Cruiser.
