Sadler’s Joy broke his maiden in his fourth career start in August 2016 at Saratoga Race Course, and then won two allowance optional claiming races on the turf at Belmont and Aqueduct before testing graded stakes company in his first start of 2017. The 4-year-old Kitten’s Joy colt just missed in the Grade 3 William McKnight Handicap at Gulfstream Park, losing by a head to Taghleeb.
In his next start, Sadler’s Joy broke through with a game win in the Grade 2 Pan American Handicap at Gulfstream on April 1 to get his first graded stakes win.

Following that start, Sadler’s Joy competed well in three consecutive graded stakes, finishing third in the Grade 1 Man o’ War Stakes, the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Manhattan Stakes, and the Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes.
Paired back up with Julien Leparoux after a two-race absence, Sadler’s Joy stormed home along the outside to get up in the final strides and secure his first top-level win on Aug. 26 in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga. He earned an automatic berth in the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf with the win. Sadler's Joy rallied powerfully in the Breeders' Cup Turf and finished fourth, beaten by 2 1/4 lengths.
In his 2018 debut, Sadler's Joy regained his winning stride with an off-the-pace victory in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes on March 3 at Gulfstream Park. Sadler’s Joy raced six more times in 2018 without a win, posting two seconds in Grade 1 stakes – both close losses – and three thirds, the last of those coming in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf on Nov. 3.
After an unplaced finish in his 2019 bow, Sadler's Joy finished second by a neck in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes Aug. 24 at Saratoga. He ran well in his next start, too, when finishing a close third in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes Oct. 5 at Belmont Park. Sadler's Joy halted a 10-race winless stretch Nov. 23 at Aqueduct when he rallied to win the Grade 3 Red Smith Stakes by two lengths.
Trained by Tom Albertrani for owner-breeder Woodslane Farm, he is out of the unraced Dynaformer mare Dynaire.
