Scotland, a Good Magic gelding owned and bred by LNJ Foxwoods, won his debut by a rallying head on March 4, 2023, at Gulfstream Park. He debuted in seven-furlong sprint and tried that distance again in an allowance optional claiming race at Keeneland during that track’s spring meet, and dueled with Tumbarumba in the stretch before losing by a nose.

The Bill Mott trainee next appeared in a one-turn mile allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs on June 3, where he took command in midstretch and held on to win by a head. Mott then brought the late blooming gelding to Saratoga and stretched him out to two turns in the 1 1/8-mile Curlin Stakes for 3-year-olds on July 21. With Junior Alvarado riding, Scotland set the pace throughout and shot clear in midstretch to win by 3 ¼ lengths.
Scotland is out of the Grade 3-winning Speightstown mare Gemswick Park and is a half-brother to stakes-placed Tapped.
