The 5-year-old Dubawi gelding had won multiple stakes and handicap races in Europe in previous seasons and earned his first group or graded stakes win in March in Dubai with a two-length victory in the Group 3 Nad al Sheba Trophy at 1 ¾ miles. He followed with a second-place finish by a neck to Broome in the Dubai Gold Cup Sponsored By Al Tayer Motors at the same two-mile distance as the Belmont Gold Cup.
