Sonneman broke his maiden by a half-length in a maiden special weight race at Belmont Park on Oct. 5, 2019.
After an impressive win in a first-level allowance at Gulfstream Park on Apr. 4, 2020, Sonneman was transferred from trainer Mark Hennig to Steve Asmussen. Under Asmussen's care, Sonneman was stakes-placed three times in 2020.
In his first two starts of 2021, Sonneman finished fourth in the Grade 3 Louisiana Stakes at Fair Grounds on Jan. 16, then was second in the Grade 3 Mineshaft Stakes over the same track on Feb. 13.
