Surly Furious began his career as a 2-year-old in 2020 with his maiden win coming in his second start on Sept. 17 with a one-mile win at Presque Isle Downs. He lost four straight races to account for his 3-year-old season in 2021, but then turned things around as a 4-year-old in 2022 when back at Presque Isle with a three-race winning streak from June 1 to July 5, culminating with a stakes win in the $100,000 Karl Boyes going six furlongs.

Following an unsuccessful foray to Woodbine for the Grade 2 Connaught Cup, Surly Furious was at it again at his Presque Isle stomping grounds with a win in the $200,000 Presque Isle Mile on Sept. 19. Surly Furious exited that career-best win to finish fourth in the Grade 3 Ack Ack Stakes at Churchill Downs on Oct. 1. Surly Furious is a Kentucky-bred gelding trained by Glenn Wismer by the sire Upstart out of the mare Perfect Prediction by Majesticperfection.
