Varda, a Distorted Humor filly owned by Baoma Corp. and trained by Bob Baffert, won the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos on Dec. 5, 2020, to earn 10 qualifying points for the 2021 Longines Kentucky Oaks.
The filly won her debut on Aug. 30 at Del Mar in a six-furlong race and then finished second to Bob Baffert-trained stablemate Princess Noor in the Grade 2 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Sept. 26.

In the Starlet, she rallied from last to win by 1 ½ lengths over another Baffert trainee, Kalypso. New York-bred Varda was purchased for $700,000 by Baoma Corp. at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. April sale of 2-year-olds in training. She is out of the winning Sky Mesa mare She’ll Be Right and is a half-sibling to two stakes-placed horses. Grade winner Abscond and Grade 2 winner Cambodia are notable relatives.
