After four consecutive defeats against Arkansas-breds at Oaklawn Park to begin his career, Whelen Springs broke through to win by a head on March 26. He stepped up to Arkansas-bred stakes company next out and won the Rainbow Stakes by five lengths on April 9. He took another step up to open stakes company for the Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn on April 30. He fought hard in the stretch and won by a length for his third consecutive victory.

He took another step up to open stakes company for the Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn on April 30. He fought hard in the stretch and won by a length for his third consecutive victory.
After the victory in the Bachelor, Whelen Springs was winless in his next six starts in races from May 2022 through May 2023, but then enjoyed a career resurgence racing at the 2023 Monmouth Park summer meet. He won an allowance race at Monmouth on June 17, and then finished second in the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup Stakes on July 22. He then scored his first stakes win in over a year when he took the $250,000 Grade 3 Phillip H. Iselin Stakes at Monmouth Park on Aug. 19. Whelen Springs stalked the pace and made a bid in the stretch and prevailed by a half a length atop a five-horse field in the Iselin, running the 1 1/16 miles in a winning time of 1:44.35.
