Carlos Montalvo, a native of Mexico City, began his riding career in 1998 in his hometown and upon moving to the U.S. started out as an exercise rider for trainers Steve Asmussen and Eusebio Razo.
Montalvo began his riding career on the Illinois circuit but traveled elsewhere to ride as his career progressed and by early 2017 was based at Gulfstream Park. He picked up his first graded stakes win in 2016 aboard turf sprinter and Breeders’ Cup winner Mongolian Saturday in the Woodford Stakes presented by Keeneland Select at Keeneland Race Course.
