New Yorkers came out in the thousands to enjoy a great day of racing, food, drink, fashion, and friendship at the 154th Belmont Stakes. Fans congregated at spacious Belmont Park with a cap on attendance but not on enjoyment to celebrate a fantastic day of horse racing, and the talented team at Eclipse Sportswire was on site to capture the moments in this photoessay.

Five weeks ago, the racing world was captivated by the underdog story of Rich Strike. He rallied from last place to win the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve in an 80.80-1 upset.

Lindsy Reed is very much part of the team that produced one of the great upsets in racing history, 80.80-1 Rich Strike’s emergence in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. Trainer Eric Reed is assisted by his wife, Kay, and Lindsy, their daughter.

Betting the longshot and winning at the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve is exhilarating! Especially this year if you bet on the winner Rich Strike (Keen Ice – Gold Strike, by Smart Strike) at odds of 80-1. Indiana horseman William Austin Nicks, 27, hit the trifecta and turned a $24 bet into $14,800! That would make any person happy.

When I set out to write the blog for this month, I had a lot of ways that I thought it would go – focusing on the show Odin and I did and the good and bad takeaways. While I definitely want to do that, I’ve seen so many other Thoroughbred Makeover trainers posting about their experiences back in the show ring after some extended time away that I really want to give that topic its own space this month.
