This Saturday, March 9, marks one of the busiest day of prep races for this season on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, with a total of three stakes races scheduled that offer qualifying points for the May 4 Derby.

This year, America’s Best Racing and the Retired Racehorse Project will be sharing diaries from several trainers preparing for the 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover competition, scheduled for Oct. 2-5 at the Kentucky Horse Park. This diary's first entry introduces us to the four-woman strong Unicorn Training Club and their Makeover horse, Dizzy.

Late one night at the Borgata in Atlantic City, my poker game broke up before I was even for the night. I was in no mood to go home still a loser, so I signed up to get in another game that was going that looked loose and wild with lots of big pots. Despite the late hour, the list for the game was as long as my arm. I gave the floorperson my initials and then went off in search of some other gambling game to whet my appetite while I waited.
