It was a typical glorious morning at Santa Anita Park in 2013. The horses were met with brilliant sunshine as they gracefully slipped onto the track for their morning workouts. There was the usual crowd at Clockers’ Corner and a line of photographers on the rail hoping to catch a perfect “morning sunlight” shot as the horses went by.

While it boasts architectural and historical marvels at virtually every corner, there’s a significant element of New York City where function trumps form. Subway cars, hot-dog carts, pizza joints, and Madison Square Garden — none of these iconic slices of the Apple are particularly pretty. Same with Belmont Park; you want bow ties and buskers, head to Saratoga Race Course.

The Belmont Stakes is always one of the most exciting events on horse racing’s calendar, and this year is extra thrilling since a Triple Crown is on the line with Justify. Add in a sensational group of top races leading up to the main event, and you can bet that Belmont Park is the place to be on June 9.

Stonestreet Farm in central Kentucky has enjoyed a great deal of success at Thoroughbred racing’s highest level in a relatively short amount of time. Today, the farm founded by the late Jess Stonestreet Jackson is a full-service operation with breeding, training, and racing divisions. That growth was aided by two astute decisions Jackson made shortly after buying the former Buckram Oak estate in eastern Fayette County in 2005.

Over the years, a number of creative ideas have changed the ways fans experience the sport of racing. Fractional ownership, or owning a fractional share of a racehorse, has become common through the formation of a range of racing syndicates and partnerships.
