As Thorpedo Anna attempts to make history Saturday by becoming the eighth filly to win the DraftKings Travers Stakes and the first since Lady Rotha in 1915, America’s Best Racing sought insight from Danny Ramsey, her ageless 74-year-old exercise rider. Ramsey discussed her historic bid – and some keys to living long and well – in a diary written with Tom Pedulla.

The DraftKings Travers Stakes is coming to Saratoga Race Course this Saturday, and if you’re planning to attend New York’s biggest day of summer racing, we have ten things you need to know before you go.

1. The Travers is also known as the “Mid-Summer Derby”

One of the biggest weeks of racing on the annual calendar has arrived, as Saratoga Race Course prepares for its marquee event of the summer meet on Saturday, Aug. 24. The 155th DraftKings Travers Stakes brings together several of the best 3-year-olds in training to compete for a $1.25 million purse and a great deal of prestige.

My last update saw Mr Nobility and I preparing for our first show on Aug. 5, a hunter/jumper show at a local barn nearby. It was meant to be a lovely little schooling show, only 10 minutes away, just a nice outing to see what kind of horse we are working with in the environment. The nice thing about these shows is that you can ship in and school over the jumps the day before, so it’s very friendly to green horses allowing them to see everything. Or so we thought…
