The upcoming weekend in horse racing is highlighted by two qualifying points preps for the 2024 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve: the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes Friday, Dec.

When Oaklawn Park opened last weekend, two new faces were behind the microphone: Matt Dinerman became the track’s seventh announcer in its 120-year history, and Crystal Conning joined the team as Paddock Analyst. Oaklawn veteran Racing Analyst Nancy Holthus rounds out this trifecta providing expert information.

Wabbit, an off-track Thoroughbred known as Molinaro Kissing during his racing days, and Jess Phoenix finished 11th at Burghley Horse Trials in Stamford UK, which ran from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.

Burghley Horse Trials are widely regarded as the top event in the sport of Eventing and one of only seven 5-star competitions globally.

The 10th and final panel of the 2023 OwnerView Virtual Thoroughbred Owner Conference was held Tuesday, December 5, and covered breeding plans. Panelists were Carrie Brogden, owner of Machmer Hall Farm; Alan Porter, founder of TrueNicks; and Mark Toothaker, director of stallions at Spendthrift Farm. The panel was hosted by OwnerView’s project manager, Gary Falter.

The upcoming weekend in horse racing is highlighted by opening day at Oaklawn Park, one of the most popular racetracks in terms of attendance and betting handle every winter and early spring. The Hot Springs, Ark., track kicks off its 2023-24 meet on Friday, Dec. 8 and will run until Kentucky Derby Day on May 4.
