Arguably the biggest weekend of July on the North American horse racing calendar is coming up, featuring a marquee race for 3-year-olds at Monmouth Park that also serves as a “Win and You’re In” for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, the second weekend of one of the two premier summer race meets in the U.S., and the opening weekend for the other.

This week marks one of the annual high points of the racing calendar, the payoff to weeks if not months of anticipation for hardcore racing fans: the opening of Saratoga Race Course’s summer meet.

After a jam-packed Independence Day holiday weekend of horse racing, the activity keeps humming during the second weekend of July, highlighted by the end of Belmont Park’s spring-summer meet and some big races in the Midwest.

The National Thoroughbred Owner Conference kicks off with a welcome reception at the historic National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame at Saratoga Springs, N.Y., this coming July 24, with the conference taking place July 25-27.

The Road to the 2022 Breeders’ Cup World Championships returns this upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend with two Challenge Series “Win and You’re In” preps on the schedule.
