Patrick O’Neill, nephew to two-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Doug O’Neill and bloodstock agent Dennis O’Neill, had a different interest from most college kids when he was an undergraduate student and a member of Brown University’s football team. He insisted on adding TVG to the fraternity house’s cable television package; he was the one who watched horse racing at every opportunity, including in class and in film study prior to practice.

Since my first day of live racing at age 12, I have had “visit every racetrack in America” on my bucket list, doing my best to check another track off my list each year.

After a week of relative quiet on the North American racing calendar, activity picks back up in a big way over the next several days, and the focus will expand beyond this continent over to the desert sands of Dubai in the Middle East, where several top U.S. horses are slated to compete at Meydan Racecourse.

This upcoming weekend, the North American racing calendar is bereft of Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve preps – a brief break before activity picks back up on the last weekend or March and then continues steadily through mid-April.

The road to the 2022 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve stops in west-central Florida this Saturday, March 12, for the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs.
