all in The Life

As the planet learns to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, most are doing what they can to survive. Others are using creativity and innovation to help serve those in need.

The medical community — on the front line caring for those infected with the virus — is perhaps the most affected. Beyond the physical and emotional demands of their jobs, access to equipment and supplies is an ongoing struggle as state and local authorities scramble to keep pace.

There’s no missing Darwin Vizcaya. Whether it’s his giant ear-to-ear grin — which he’s seemingly always flashing at the track — or his physically imposing size (he’s 6 feet 4 inches tall), it’s hard not to notice the New York-based race caller and analyst originally from Aragua, Venezuela.

Aside from his physical features, Vizcaya has also caught the attention among many in the racing world for his work ethic and smooth presence on the TV screen covering racing in Spanish over the past few years.

Chel-c Bailey is a winner on the mat, the octagon, and now the track after the apprentice jockey recorded her first career victory aboard Burtnjoe in Friday’s first race at Oaklawn.

Everyone loves a miniature horse: They’re adorable, sassy, and fun-sized. Tampa Bay Downs found the perfect mini to become the track’s mascot: Mouse. What makes this little horse newsworthy, though, is how much she overcame on her way to becoming a beloved fixture at the Oldsmar, Fla., oval.

Among the many talented young professionals in the world of racing, there are few as dynamic as Claudia Elena Spadaro. Born in Venezuela, Spadaro has developed a multi-national following as her star has grown in the U.S. as one of the main handicappers and on-air personalities for HipicaTV.

Spadaro is based at Gulfstream Park, not far from her alma mater at the University of Miami. We sent her some questions so that we could get to know her a little better.
