Lindsey Taylor became infatuated with horses as a young girl and fell in love with racing at age 12. The Georgia native and recent Keeneland intern shares the details of her journey as a racing fan.

I am not sure if I became a fan of horse racing by coincidence or fate. I didn't grow up with horses, nor did I grow up in a place anywhere near areas that had horse racing. At the time I lived in Alpharetta, Ga., a suburb north of Atlanta, and somehow I inherited the “gene,” the “horse gene” as my mother likes to call it.

She’s only 26 years old and she’s only been training on her own for a few months, but Anna Meah is destined for big things. In her first eight races as a professional trainer, five of her horses have finished in the top three. Even more remarkable, one of her very first starters, named Excellent Sunset, crossed the finish line first in the Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar.

Meet Nexus Racing Club: Next-Generation Owners with a Vision to Grow the Sport

In the fall of 2016, a conversation with friend Samantha Bussanich at Keeneland began the initial spark of what would become Nexus Racing Club. We had the common goal: bring young people closer to the sport. With help from Sophie Shore, we spent several months developing this idea. Two years later, we have grown into the only racing club for the younger generation that offers a connection to the sport through ownership experiences.
