This partnership owns Exaggerator, who won the Saratoga Special and Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes as a 2-year-old. As a 3-year-old, he finished second in a pair of California Grade 2s before winning the Santa Anita Derby by 6 1/4 lengths. He went on to finish second in the Kentucky Derby before winning the Preakness Stakes.

Big Chief Racing is the racing operation of Matt Bryan, a Texas native who works as CEO of his family's business, M.G. Bryan Equipment Co. After dabbling in racehorse ownership in another partnership, Bryan met trainer Keith Desormeaux and soon started Big Chief Racing. In addition to Exaggerator, other stars campaigned by the stable include 2013 Risen Star Stakes winner Ive Struck a Nerve and graded stakes winner Crucero.

In 2015 the stable had its biggest year yet, capturing a pair of graded stakes and finishing fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile with Exaggerator. In his first start of 2016, Exaggerator finished second to champion Nyquist in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes. He then won the Santa Anita Derby in dominant fashion to secure his place in the Kentucky Derby. After a runner-up finish to then-unbeaten champion Nyquist in the Kentucky Derby, Exaggerator got the best of that rival on a sloppy track in the Preakness Stakes, overhauling him at the top of the stretch and streaking to a visually impressive win in the second jewel of the Triple Crown.
