Danny Gargan won his biggest career race when he trained his Fountain of Youth Stakes winner Dornoch to victory in the 2024 running of the Belmont Stakes on June 8, 2024, at Saratoga Race Course, topping a field of 10 runners in near wire-to-wire fashion.
Gargan grew up in Louisville, Ky., and is the son of the late jockey of the same name, who won the 1973 Kentucky Oaks. Gargan worked in various assistant positions in Kentucky and New York and as a jockey agent prior to starting his training career in 2013.

Earlier in his career, Gargan claimed Divine Miss Grey in March 2017 for $16,000 and she went on to win five stakes races for him and her owners, including the Grade 2 Chilukki Stakes in Nov. 2018. Gargan also claimed Tax for $50,000 out of a Keeneland maiden claiming race in October 2018. The Arch gelding went on to win the Grade 3 Withers Stakes andJim Dandy Stakes in 2019 and the Harlan’s Holiday Stakes in 2020.
Gargan trained 2022 Remsen Stakes winner and Kentucky Derby prospect Dubyuhnell. He won the Remsen Stakes again in 2023 with Dornoch.
