Klaravich Stables, Inc.

Seth Klarman discovered racing while growing up three blocks from historic Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Klarman, president of The Baupost Group, a very successful hedge fund, formed Klaravich Stables in 1993 with his friend from Baltimore, Jeff Ravich. They bought and raced horses together for about a decade until Ravich left the racing end of the partnership to start his own stable on the West Coast.

Klarman still uses the Klaravich stable name and frequently purchases and raced horses in partnership with William Lawrence, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Meridian Capital Partners, through 2019.  The partnership won a pair of Grade 1 races in 2016 with Practical Joke, who ran third in the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Both horses were trained by Eclipse Award winner Chad Brown. Practical Joke finished second in both the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Toyota Blue Grass Stakes to qualify for the 2017 Kentucky Derby, where he finished fifth. Practical Joke didn't run in the Preakness Stakes but the partnership's Cloud Computing did after skipping the Derby, and he rallied late to defeat Classic Empire and win the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

In 2018, Klaravich Stables won Grade 1 races with Separationofpowers and Complexity and added a Breeders' Cup win when Newspaperofrecord delivered a tour de force in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, surging to a runaway victory.

Klarman and Brown continued their successful partnership into the third decade of the 21^st century, and in 2022, they brought another talented colt to the Preakness Stakes after deciding to bypass the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. Their decision paid off just as it did in 2017, as Early Voting took the lead in early stretch and was all-out to hold off favored Epicenter for the victory.
