Forty Under finished ninth of 10 in his career debut in July 2018 on the main track at Saratoga Race Course. A surface switch was the key to a much-improved second start as Forty Under stalked the pace in a 1 1/16-mile turf race at Saratoga in August and shook free for a 1 ½-length victory.
Moving up into stakes competition, Forty Under closed powerfully to win the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes on Sept. 29 at Belmont Park to stamp himself a contender for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. He finished sixth, beaten 4 1/4 lengths, after stalking the early pace.

Forty Under did not win a stakes race for more than three years after his Pilgrim triumph. He earned another stakes victory on Jan. 22, 2022, when he won the Colonel E.R. Bradley Stakes at Fair Grounds in a 16.40-1 upset.
By champion Uncle Mo, Forty Under is out of the stakes-winning Black Tie Affair mare Argent Affair.
