Miss Marissa

Miss Marissa needed four starts to earn her first career victory, drawing away to win by five lengths Sept. 8, 2019 in a one-mile race at Belmont Park. She made her stakes debut in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes and faded to finish sixth before closing out her 2-year-old season with an unplaced finish in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct.

Miss Marissa finished third in the Ruthless Stakes Jan. 26 at Aqueduct in her 3-year-old bow but next faded to fourth in the Wide Country Stakes Feb. 15 at Laurel Park. After an unplaced finish on the grass, Miss Marissa returned to the main track and posted a three-length win July 11 at Monmouth Park. She subsequently led from start to finish to win an Aug. 13 allowance-optional claiming race going 1 1/8 miles at Saratoga.

Returning to stakes competition for the Grade 2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Oct. 3 at Pimlico, Miss Marissa pressed the pace from second, took control and opened a two-length lead in early stretch, and then held off a powerful late charge from Bonny South to win by a neck at 10.10-1 odds.

In her first two starts of 2021, Miss Marissa finished second in two listed stakes. She broke through with a mild upset in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park on Jul. 10. Under Daniel Centeno, she set a moderate early pace and had enough to hold on for the win.

Miss Marissa is out of the winning Arch mare Ardara. Multiple graded stakes winner Inish Glora, by Regal Classic, is the grandam (maternal grandmother) of Miss Marissa.
