Necker Island was placed back on the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve trail after being claimed by his new owners in June. Since then, he ran third in two consecutive points races, the Indiana Derby and Runhappy Ellis Park Derby. The son of Hard Spun posted back-to-back wins at Churchill Downs in fall 2019.
Necker Island was placed back on the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve trail after being claimed by his new owners in June. Since then, he ran third in two consecutive points races, the Indiana Derby and Runhappy Ellis Park Derby. The son of Hard Spun posted back-to-back wins at Churchill Downs in fall 2019.
Necker Island made it to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve starting gate, and finished ninth, beaten 14 3/4 lengths. He took the rest of his 3-year-old year off, returning in a non-winners of three allowance at Oaklawn Park on April 23, 2021. In that race, he finished second, beaten 3/4 of a length. He won an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill by a neck on June 5.
On Nov. 6, 2021, Necker Island won his first stakes race, taking the Bet On Sunshine Stakes at Churchill Downs by a head after a multi-horse stretch battle.
