Moon Over Miami won his first stakes race on Sept. 10, 2020 at Kentucky Downs, in the $750,000 Dueling Grounds Derby. He rated in tenth place, well off the pace, in the early stages. In the last eighth, he took control, and got up for a half-length win, for trainer Bill Mott and jockey Javier Castellano.

In his first two starts of 2021, Moon Over Miami picked up a pair of graded stakes placings. He was third in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 27, then was second in the Grade 2 Pan American Stakes at the same track on Mar. 27. He then finished third in the Grade 1 Man o'War Stakes at Belmont Park on May 8.
