Closing Remarks

Closing Remarks broke her maiden in her first start at Del Mar on Aug. 31, 2020, in a California-bred maiden race on the grass.

After two defeats in stakes company, Closing Remarks began her 3-year-old season with a win in the Leigh Ann Howard California Cup Oaks at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 16. She won the one-mile grass race by a length, for trainer Carla Gaines and jockey Umberto Rispoli.

Closing Remarks followed up that performance with second place finishes in the China Doll Stakes on Mar. 6, the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes on Apr. 3, and the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes on May 1. She later finished second in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on Aug. 21, 2021, before ending her 3-year-old campaign with off the board finishes in two more Grade 1 stakes races.

Closing Remarks returned for her 4-year-old season with an allowance win at Santa Anita on Jan. 17, 2022, but that victory unfortunately was her only win of 2022. She went winless in three graded stakes outings the rest of the year.

The 5-year-old season for Closing Remarks got off to a solid start when she finished third in the Grade 3 Megahertz Stakes and third in the Grade 3 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita in the opening months of 2023.

Closing Remarks won her first career graded stakes race on April 1, 2023 when she won the Grade 2 $200,000 Royal Heroine Stakes at Santa Anita. She was victorious that day running one mile on the turn in a winning time of 1:34.82 to top a six-horse field as the 6-5 favorite with Joe Bravo aboard.

Following losses in the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes on April 30 and in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes on May 29 at Santa Anita, Closing Remarks rebounded in a big positive direction at Del Mar in her next start in the $250,000 Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap on Aug. 12. Sent off as the 2.30-1 favorite in a field of seven fillies and mares in the Yellow Ribbon, Closing Remarks stalked the pace close-up and then grinded past the leaders in the stretch to win by a neck. She ran the 1 1/16th-miles on the turf in a winning time of 1:42.01 to record her fifth career victory.

Closing Remarks returned for yet another big win at the 2023 Del Mar summer season with a victory in the Grade 2 $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on the turf. As the 7-5 favorite on the tote board in a field of six, Closing Remarks proved much the best with a rally from behind to blow past the field for a 1 3/4-length win.

After a fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Rodeo Drive Stakes in October at Santa Anita Park, Closing Remarks returned to the winner’s circle with a half-length win from off the pace in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes at one mile Nov. 5, 2023, at Santa Anita Park.

Closing Remarks is a homebred for Harris Farms. She's sired by Vronsky, out of the Unusual Heat mare Orange Cove.
